Finca Un Regalo de Dios, meaning ‘A Gift from God’ in English, stands as a beacon of excellence amidst the picturesque landscapes of La Cordillera de Dipilto y Jalapa. Nestled within the heart of this mountain range, spanning across northern Nicaragua and Honduras, this renowned farm is under the careful stewardship of owner Luis Alberto Balladarez Moncada. Known affectionately as URDD, it has earned a stellar reputation for producing some of Nicaragua’s finest coffees, consistently impressing connoisseurs worldwide since its Cup of Excellence debut in 2010.
OZO’s journey with URDD commenced in 2013 with a modest purchase of ten bags of washed coffee. The exceptional quality of the beans left an indelible impression on the OZO buying team, prompting them to significantly increase their procurement the following year. Their collaboration with Luis transcended mere transactions when they requested a custom dry-processed coffee tailored specifically for OZO. Despite not sampling the product beforehand, the team placed their trust wholeheartedly in Luis’ expertise, a decision that continues to yield remarkable results to this day.
Situated at an elevation of 1900 meters above sea level, URDD benefits from a unique microclimate within the cloud forest, ideal for nurturing cherries to perfection. Enveloped by a rich tapestry of broadleaf trees, abundant fruit-bearing flora, and diverse wildlife, the farm boasts an environment conducive to the cultivation of exceptional coffee.
All coffee harvested at Un Regalo de Dios undergoes meticulous processing at their on-site wet mill. Employing a rigorous sorting and separation regimen, only the finest cherries proceed to the next stage of production. Once processed, the beans make their way to the dry mill, Las Segovias, where stringent quality control measures ensure each batch is meticulously tracked and monitored. Spread across African beds, the beans undergo the drying process, a crucial step in preserving their distinct flavor profiles.

This year, we embarked on a fresh approach to roasting, driven by a desire to accentuate the nuanced acidity notes that harmonize exquisitely with the coffee’s velvety body. Our skilled roasters meticulously adjusted the roast profile, shortening the duration while ensuring a lower end temperature and elongated development time. The result? A heightened expression of the coffee’s inherent richness, with its luscious berry undertones and decadent chocolate notes taking center stage, all while preserving a body robust enough to complement milk.
